Recently I wrote my own character rigging script in Maya with which I'm rather happy. I'm now looking for advanced features to implement (such as helper joints or the capability for muscle deformation), but the information on such things seems to be quite scattered. It's crazy how many videos and resources tell me that I should have helper joints in my character's elbows and knees, but so little of it actually explains how these are implemented or what function they serve.
For the pro-riggers / animators here, could you recommend any good resources - be it video, book, or even online course - that you'd consider "must-see" that would introduce me to industry-standard character rig functionality that's a bit more advanced than "you should have an FK/IK switch"?
Edit: I should probably also clarify that I'm rigging for games!
