Help me to buy a new GPU

Hello ! 
I'm in need of upgrading to a new GPU because it lags even when working with 2K in Substance Painter. I think GPU is the main reason for lagging. My current one is an AMD Radeon R9 270X.
Here are my PC specs,
Intel Core i7-4770K @ 3.50GHz
16GB DDR3 (Kingston HyperX Beast 8GB x 2 )
AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB
My budget is around $300 and I am looking for a used or a brandnew GPU. I don't have a big idea about GPUs. Please be kind to name some with your experience. Please help me.

I've no idea what your current card is equivalent to but we use 1070s at work and people are working happily at 2k on fairly old machines with not much memory.
I agree - the Nvidia cards, although probably known more for gaming, do really well with 3D applications.
For your budget you can get, for example, a GTX 1060 with 6GB of VRam. Here is the link to one on Newegg - https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814487261 -- There are other brands, most are about the same. Check warranty, etc....
The 6GB of Vram will help with your Substance Painter maps.

Thanks for giving me precious advice. Well, IO couldn't find a 1070 for my budget and I have an idea of buying a MSI gtx 1060 Gaming X 6GB. 1 year used, and he says he will sell it to $210, with box. As both MSI 1060 3GB and 6GB looks same (as far as i know) is there any way to check it by looking from outside? Is it worth the price?
