This is the constellation of xayah, a star that is only seen during the dusk. She’s recognizable for her brilliance and blue-purple color. She is the reincarnation of the moon. Ionian astrologists say she has stars for eyes, moon dust in her lungs, and has a secondary name as the mother of cosmos and the ruler of skies. She is also referred to as a celestial princess or goddess and as a constellation that can grant wishes. Story has it that xayah is reunited with her lover RAKAN on a bridge in Ionia on the seventh night of the seventh moon.
She has fallen in love with the reincarnation of the sun, who goes by the name of RAKAN. A simple man, an exotic dancer, a vagabond. RAKAN’s constellation is only seen during the dawn. Astrologists say stars make up his smile and that his arrangement of stars are the brightest in the sky. He has a fallen in love with xayah and her beauty. He can only catch glimpses of this twilight princess when he arises and he’s failed to introduce himself, but when the time comes, he makes himself present.
It’s one of Ionia’s fascinations, where both the sun and moon share the same sky for less than twenty-four hours. As these two lovers are placed in the sky they overcome the celestial river which separates them (celestial river being equivalent to the milky way). When the sky gods are kind enough that year, a bridge forms and both lovers are met. This cycle continues where the star crossed lovers are separated and reunited again. On RAKAN’s annual trip across the river; it’s treacherous, tough, and he’s never successful. In that case, xayah admires his attempts and her tears fall in the form of raindrops over Ionia.
Rumor has it that meteor showers are the representation of RAKAN’s tears.
