[Riot 2017 Art Contest] Bilgewater Katarina splash rework

Hey everyone!

Loving all the stuff people have been posting so far, you guys are really inspiring!

Anyway, I decided to try and take part in the contest as well. Since I love pirate stuff in general, I thought it would be awesome to try and tackle reworking the splash for Bilgewater Katarina. I'm posting my inspiration boards, some thumb variations (the first row is mostly pose variations) and a final thumb that I think could work for what I had in mind.

Now on to the tighter lineart!

Your horizon line, (the line that seperates the ship from the sky) forms a crecent curve that strongly suggests that the right side of the image would come to the foreground, but since there are people fighting on there it seems to be the bridge of the ship.
Also: keep in mind how sails on a ship work, please. They need to be on the other side of the mast, if the area on the right really is the bridge.

Oh cool, thanks! I was thinking of removing the sail all together because it doesn't really add anything, but I didn't even see the bridge melting into the horizon line, going to have to fix that. Thanks for the crit!

Finally had some time to work a bit more on the thumbnail. I think I have the composition I want, I just need to show a bit more of the arm up front...

I finally managed to do two color comps, I think I'm gonna go with the top one.

I did a third color comp where I punched up the colors a bit, and I did the lineart as well. Now it's on to grinding!
