I've been watching many tutorials but am still having trouble with normal maps. Mine all look terrible trying xnormals and Maya until I baked in Substance painter. It looked better than the others but I am still having problems. Should I smooth my edges in Maya on my low poly? or does the normal map do that since I am baking from my high poly?

I saw a download for a material that creates both averaged and non average normal. I thought maybe that might be my problem but that is just for substance painter and I am having problems with normal maps in all programs.

Not sure what to search to start trying to fix this. Any help would be very helpful. Thank you.
