Maya Viewport Lagging or Consumer vs Pro GPUs

 Hello there.

Sorry for making my first thread so long and how you say, blunt, but there is something that has been bugging me for quite some time. Why is it that consumer cards perform so badly in Maya for me (2016 SP6 in my case)? Essentially I can separate a 3 million polygon (before subdivision), 1200 object model onto separate layers and work without issue. But when I want to examine the whole thing I am still getting above 100FPS in the viewport yet manipulating said viewport or any objects in the scene can variably take between 1-5 seconds before anything happens after which point I can keep performing said actions with no issue, buttery smooth.

However, the moment I complete any of said actions I need to wait another variable amount of time before any further actions engage. Furthermore, the program can crash during one of these short lockups. I have not had these problems with either Firepro or Quadro cards in Maya of equivalent raw power (TFLOPS) to their consumer cards on multiple computers with multiple installations.

My question is this: Is this viewport/manipulating sputtering a direct cause of Pro vs Consumer drivers or is there something I am potentially doing wrong that is overtaxing the consumer cards and causing Maya to run like butt? I do not notice this issue with Blender or 3DS Max 2014 with much larger scenes and objects so what gives?

Thank you for any input you can offer!

P.S. Each system was running Windows 7 Pro x64, had at least 32GB of RAM. The weakest single core performing processor was a 2680 v2 and the strongest being an over-clocked 5930K; Just to clear up any other potential hardware hangups.
