Mudbox "Stretch marks" on model

Hello friends.

I was working on a dog/wolf sculpt in mudbox and went to use the pose tools to scale parts of the geometry before sculpting on them again, and wound up with "stretch marks like this on various parts of the sculpt where it was deformed. I've tried all of the sculpt tools and tried going up and down sub-d levels to no avail.

Taking it into maya to see the mesh better turns up a result like this, with the problem verts highlighted for visibility.

Are there any ways to fix this on the model itself, or when i start baking the normal details on, will I just have to go into PS and scrub out those ugly lines?

Thanks.

i think thats the grab brush if symmetry is turned on... bug is reported...
also you model looks really big..? this could also lead into stepping..

One of the things I tried was making the model really big to try and fix the stepping, it's usually scaled to the right size. Also, the stepping didn't happen until I used the pose tools to try and scale parts of the model, I had been using the grab brush fine until then with no stepping issues.
