This is my first 3D asset. Just took a few shots in Toolbag and wanted to ask some comments. I tried to create a stylized look. I created LPs in 3ds max, HPs in Zbrush and did texturing in SP. Also created textures for walls, ground and floors in SD. Used SD for the first time with this.
Any comments and critique is highly appreciated. I know there are many things to improve especially with texturing but wanted to share few shots right now. Not sure if I'm going to work on this anymore. I might come back to this later and make improvements when I've learned new tricks.
The main issue here is lighting. It's hard to make out what's going on because everything looks flat. Also, what's going on with the lights that you do have by the stairs?
Thanks HolBol! You are right. I haven't really practiced lightning at all. I guess I need to find some tutorials about that subject next Had hard time trying to make those lanterns work and I didn't really figure out how I could make those look better. Lights are added in toolbag.
Liked the style, but walls feels very flat, especially front wall on the last screenshot. Did you use normal maps on this?
The walls were a real pain in the ass with this. I created the texture with substance designer, but found it really hard to get the normal maps+AO and height working. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong but it was quite hard to get a consistent round look for those logs. Not sure if I'd get better results if I would just sculpt the texture in Zbrush and make it tile. Any tips for those issues are welcome!
Looking really nice man! One thing at the moment thats throwing me off is the texture alignment at the corners of the tiled roof, maybe you could create some new tiles in geo to cover it up?
That last lighting is waaaaaaaaayyy better!! nd i also tink the walls mat works way better maybe thansk to that boosted AO, but yeah tking care of those seams on the roof could be a good idea

Updated: wall, roof, floor materials. Added a bit dirt all over the mesh and added small rocks and cactuses.
Comments? Thanks!
