[Riot Creative Contest 2017] Beyond the Veil: Breach of the Void

Hello all,

So excited about this contest again! I'm going to attempt something more ambitious this time around, and I wanted to focus on the badass creatures of the Void. So far I'm featuring Cho'Gath, Rek'Sai, Kog'Maw, Kha'Zix, and Vel'Koz, and I may have Malhazar unleashing his Void Swarm as well. I want to have each character deploying one of its abilities. 

The basic story is the Veil of the Void has been breached and its terror is unleashed unto Valoran and all of Runeterra. I want to show both worlds with a cool transition where the fissure opens, so balancing the dark unleashed with the light in the background.

I have a suggestion To you ,if you lower  The Point or view a Little down from were It is right Now you Can really add more dramma

Thanks, MadameDaFunk! Yes, dropping the horizon would do that, but there are a few reasons I might not do that. First, my entry last time they did this had a very low angle because I wanted to show scale and drama. This, so far, is really just my idea sketch, and now I will start thinking about all the design and illustrative elements. Here is my entry from three years ago, so you can see what I mean.

Here's a small update on Cho'Gath. Just starting to get a feel for the characters and style with a rough blocking. I also did a render test and character exploration with Kog'Maw as well. Still much to do!

Here's an update of Kog'Maw. He's just beaching a thin plasma-like membrane that separates the Void and Runeterra. He's going to be spitting his venom long distance as well.

Here's another update. I've basically been working on the different elements/characters individiually, and once they are all blocked out then I'll be able to work on composition and lighting, and then on to color.

WOW This is too big and too beatiful, the 3D effect looks great, especially on Cho'Ga's face, congratulations, man! Looking foward for the coloring process. *___*

Here is an update on Kha'Zix in the upper right corner. I might alter his pose slightly, but overall I'm liking him.

Another quick update. I redid Vel'Koz and his tentacles. Now I have all the elements I'm going to really refine the composition, then the lighting and values, and then a quick color comp, and then on to the final.

This may look like a regression rather than progression, but these are the final assets that I will paint over for the final Illustration. The models were blocked out in ZBrush to get their basic forms, from which I will further refine and then detail over the top in Photoshop. This is really not much different than old-school Illustrators creating their own maquettes our of clay to light and paint from. I like to be able to realize the form in three dimensions and move them around so I can play with position, perspective, and different lighting.

Here's an update. I've been busy with the holiday, work, and I'm moving on top of it all. 

Here I'm starting to detail the final assets, as well as adding a splash of quick color.

Phew!!!! Just "finished" with 8 minutes to spare! Haha! I put finished in quotes because I really wanted to spend more time on this, and I will beyond the challenge. Good luck to all! Now it's time to sift through all the awesome entries.
