Speedtree help! Leaf planes splitting apart in the wind

Hi guys! 

Been dabbling with speedtree lately and ran into a weird issue with a custom leaf mesh (it's just a plane subdivided once to get a bit of a curve). For some reason, when the wind is on the planes seems to separate at the edges (see picture). Any thoughts on what might cause this?

Are all the verts welded on that leaf mesh?

This could also be caused by having split normals. Make sure you have smoothed normals on the faces.

Yes, strangely enough. That was my first assumption too.
