If you're not using a cage, modify the Max Frontal and Max Rear Distance settings. Here:
The default values are 0.01. Try a smaller value, like 0.001. These distances are referring to how far away (outside and inside being respective to Front and Rear) from the object surface the rays will search. So if you reduce the Frontal Distance, the rays will not search so far, thereby not catching the adjacent parts of your object. Make sense?
If you are using a cage, make sure that the cage is not so large as to overlap the adjacent parts of your model. cheers!
