Appreciate it you guys! Tiny update so u cen see am nawt ded-- pretty much worked out my retopo-- might have a few changes down the road here, but for now this is good enough
Color WIP progress from tonight. To me it's looking very procedural-- the base colors and lighting were started in Substance painter.. I will pop this stuff into PS and 3D-Coat to solidify some things.
Loving the color scheme. The boots are very noisy at the moment though. Can I ask what kind of layers you used for this progress? I'm guessing base colors + 50% AO + color dodge layer with "light" mask builder and cavity map for edgewear, but feels like there's something more..? Can't wait to see more
@GravityBwlast -- yeah man, that's basically it-- color, ao, lighting mat, and curvature.. I like to use the Baked Lighting material for getting a basic feel for the materials-- metallic yellow vs the cloth. I like how you can control the specular highlights and lighting direction-- I use multiple instances of it and set the layer to a Linear Dodge, Overlay, Soft or Hard Light, depending on what I think looks good-- typically I set the layer to Linear Dodge tho..At the top of the stack, I like to add a final Contact AO to try to unify the form w/ a color-- warm color or cool color-- I feel like it solidifies the character really well. Like I said before tho-- this look is quick to build, but feels pretty generic and procedural-- the finesse will come from getting in there and painting in details manually myself.
Thanks a lot for the breakdown man. That's similar to what I'm used to do, and yeah of course you can't avoid the painting process, but anyway who would want that, painting is the best part of the whole thing!
@lotet -- Agreed man-- she's will be lit better and I have some ideas to help separate her materials out-- and that background isn't helping her pop very well either.. realized it after I posted it.. xD
Looking really cool Miles, i love the bakes and the general color scheme. I think at the moment it might be slightly dark, i think especially the top area around the face/shoulder
Hey guys-- Here is where I'm at w/ Miss Fortune. I think I've worked out the kinks for the most part, but I'm open to any crits folks might have! I have plans for a small pedestal, and posing and all the good stuff. Stay tuned and thank you for the encouragement!
Looking great Miles. For some feedback I'd say to watch out for the overall contrast. You have a lot of near black, and the gold by comparison is super bright. I would lighten up the dark values, and put a top down gradient on the gold trims, so it gets more muted towards the base.
Hey Miles, looking great! I love the metal definition, especially the slight green touches in the shadowed areas. The only critique I have is I think the pelvis area and bottom of the cape have bright values that conflicts with the bust part. I think if you darken them it will be easier for the eye to directly focus on the face. I agree with Neer too on the overall values. I did a quick paintover, I hope you don't mind!
Anyway it turned out awesome, I am very eager to see her with a badass pose!
Its looking pretty great @jmiles you are doing a great work here, if I can give some feedback's, I'll be agree at the one's that @Neer says, and I'll put a bit of a saturation on the cavity golden areas, I think right now they are a bit darker and desaturated. Again, your concept and its execution its going so great man!
Appreciate the feedback @chemotoledo-- spamming a bit tonight as I've been working from yall's feedback-- I think those contrast changes helped a lot! Thanks again guys!
Some subtle changes from some feedback. Honestly I think I'm ready to call her texture finished-- here's hoping nothing comes back to bite me in the butt in the next weeks ahead-- Thanks again all for the kind words and feedback.
Edit: Actually, if any of ya have any final thoughts, I would greatly appreciate it..
Small update tonight. Spent some time reducing visual noise-- the gold strips on her skirt have been adjusted by cutting out a few and scaling them up larger. edges, specular highlights, color balancing, contact AO, and material separation. I'll need to test this up against the backdrops before I roll over to my diorama, pose, etc-- If anyone has any feedback, let me know-- thank you
More adjustments. Playing w/ a new color scheme-- this one closer matches the Gothic theme I'm trying to go for w/ the group of existing skins. I'm gonna move on to the pedestal now. I've also done an extensive painterly pass to simplify forms and give it a better brushier fines look to it
The visual noise update is great, the coat is way better to read. I think the color update you did is a bit too much, kinda feels like there's a violet layer that's over it preventing me to see the actual texture; but it helps harmonising the whole thing, I'd personally go for something halfway between the two versions. The more painterly aspect is just awesome, I really love the strokes on the shoulders and metal parts. I think you're almooooost there, it's already looking really great anyway.
@GravityBwlast Yeah man I agree with meeting half way between the two-- and yeah there was a color balance layer that I had going on as to keep her sort of in a cool range-- I think as it turns out, her purple cloth was still getting too dark in value and hiding some of her details.. so I've lightened that up a touch and threw a cool blue tone into the highlights for some detail separation.. I think this is working a lot better now. Thank you for your feedback ma dude. Have an idea for the pedestal-- hopefully it works out and I can jam on it good over my holiday weekend. Will probably be tweaking all the way til the end-- but hopefully she's pretty much there-- I know I keep saying that.. but you know how it goes..
Such a great work!!!!and so cool design and colors! But can you say me, why do you add on the bottom of the gun green reflection? If she up them to top when she will shoot its be looks some strange? What do you think?
@Benefix -- yeah I was playing with the green under lighting for fun-- I wasn't sure about it either--- it's on a separate layer-- if it looks distracting, I can take it off.
@lasoob -- hehe Yeah! This is Lavinia-- she's my little sidekick.
Hey guys. Was able to do a fast sketch of my pedestal- still working out some things, but over-all pretty happy w/ these results are so far-- some forms will be subject to change-- there are a couple of other gravestone shapes I like, so I'll mess around w/ them in 3DS Max to get the one I want before the sculpt and things..
a little bit more work tonight-- working out the block-out for her pedestal-- I like where it's going, but I'm not sure about the rear stone pillars-- which drifted a little from my concept.. what do you guys think? leave'm in or take'm out?
