8 Ways to find 3D Model Ideas that Sell

I’ve been selling 3D assets for a while now, and I can tell you, the things you create in your spare time are useful to others. IF you know the kind of things to build…

I sell principally on turbosquid and on my own website...

I really believe that selling your own 3d models is something that can have a positive impact ...I wrote about this on my blog the other day.

To help other CG artists who are thinking of doing this, I’ve put together a quick guide on how to find ideas for models that actually earn money.

Hope you find this of some use - You'll find the article on my blog here...

Well i read through your article since i uploaded my first model yesterday. Your article relies mostly on being an exclusive member on turbosquid, newcomers like me are not exclusive members, nor i can use the tools to find a niche. Having said that, yesterday i uploaded some steampunk / industrial pipe shapes that no1 else has in the market, yet i cannot showcase them or get exposure because i am literally in the last page...

Anyone having trouble on getting exposure of their products....dont rely on the site to drive traffic, do it yourself. Experiment with facebook ads or other ad networks with a really good thunbnail or video.

Tweak your ads and test them with 5-10 bucks a day budget and see if you get results. Worst case scenario you lose 50-100 bucks and learn a bunch from the data. Being willing to put some skin in the game is how most businesses succeed.

I think one of the main reasons turbosquid is working for you is because you are making models for architecture visualization. That's a tried and tested area for model sales but very limited to what you can make for that market.

One model idea that is most times a guaranteed best seller is pornographic models, not that I'm into that but several people are.
I don't think Turbosquid is into that either.

Thanks for the info. Facebook ad on a first thought does not sound very appealing because I dont know how it is going to reach that very small targeted audience. 3d is a very specific category and the model even more specific. I tried one years ago and it did not have the specifications to narrow down the targeted audience. Can I paste somehwhere my turbosquid asset url to promote it myself?
