I am pretty happy with the pieces below. This is small collection of custom motorcycle tanks for my portfolio. I aimed at quality in modelling and UV using it to study texturing. Could you please let me know you think it is a good idea for portfolio? Also, are they any good indeed? Thanks for feedback. Have a good day
My initial thought is "why motorcycle fuel tanks ONLY?" I'm not sure if such a specific subject is a good anchor for a portfolio. Generally, a good texturing portfolio will show a range of different objects and materials on different situations. Even if you wanted to make them fit in a similar style, you'd still want to show a range of some sort.
Other than that, they look ok but they kind of live and die on the story their texturing tells and the graphic design that they show case and in both cases what you have here is fairly simple. Simple fonts on simple materials. Think variation, composition, and detail!
i agree with @mutatedjellyfish Some ideas to think about, to catch the viewers attention. 1) Try finding a smart / funny way of incorporating many materials in an object, 2) You can try compensating with quantity, like take a picture of 50 very nicely made basic materials 3) You definatelly need to add SSS materials / shaders like ice, wax, etc if you want to show off your skills in materials 4) Or, take your time and make something complicated but with the already simple tools that programs like substance designer have to offer. I was blown away by this guy and the material he made. https://www.artstation.com/artwork/8gBoO And this one, made in the bi weekly substance challenge by @LeDjinn
