Hey everyone,

I'm happy to announce you that the Link Overwatch animation Project is finally over!

Two years have passed since my last post on this thread, so let me give you a bit of context:

While the animation part of this project was mostly done last time I posted, I was still looking for people who would be motivated to create some cool VFX, and make a render as close a possible to the Overwatch visual.

That's why I would like to thanks two persons in particular:
- Philémon Belhomme, who made a clean render with Unity, and made some extra 3D assets (the lootbox, the fake background, etc).
- Etienne Pov, one of the winners of the Riot Creative Contest 2017, who made all those awesome VFX.
The final result wouldn't have been the same without their precious help.

Besides, big shout out to Jeremy Vitry, who made the original concept art a few years ago, and Aaron Walker, who allowed us to use his Link 3D model for all those years

This project took more production time than we anticipated, but we really wanted to push up the quality as much as possible in order to deliver the most appealing final shot.

We really hope you will like the final result.
Enjoy the watch, and thank you all for your support and your patience!

Original WIP post, back in 2017:

Hi everyone!

My name is Stéphane Videlo. I am a french 3D animator working in the video game industry, and I would like to share with you the progress of an animation project I have started in march 2017 on my spare time.

I am currently working on an Overwatch/Zelda fan animation project in collaboration with two talented artists:
- Jeremy Vitry, who made an original concept art of Link with an Overwatch style:
- Aaron Walker, who modelized that same character, based on Jeremy's concept:

On my part, I started by making a rig with the biped of 3ds max in order to create poses for Aaron, and then animate his 3D model. Since I am more an animator than a rigger, my goal here was to reach a functionnal level.

I already made a few animations with this model. The render is not clean yet, but it's on my to do list. Here are a few playblasts to show you what I have done so far:

Highlight intro 00:

Highlight intro 01 (I'll probably rework this one):

Highlight intro 02:

My final goal is to make a short compilation of "Highlight intros" animations,  with a clip of the Overwatch victory theme as BGM:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghk8O1yiY0I

For that, I'll use the "Highlight intro 00" as a victory pose at the beginning of the video (I'll change the camera angle for that).
Then, I'll chain all other "highlight intros" animations until the Overwatch logo appears.
Since I am not fully satisfied of the highlight intro 01 and the run cycle quality, I think I won't keep them for the final video and consider them as animation researches.

I plan to finish this project before the new year, but there is still a lot of work to accomplish before that.
Here are the next steps of my to do list:

-create 2 or 3 more POTG animations
-create a first video montage to see if the timing is good.
-set the rendering parameters to get an Overwatch like visual.
-maybe add some vfx, but I'll probably need some help for that.
-add sfx.
-release the final video.

I'll keep you informed when I'll start a new animation. Until then, don't hesitate to post your feedback.
