Actually on day 402 of doing daily 3D practice, but I'm happy to have a place to post them as I go! Starting off with a project I just wrapped up today. Will be doing renders, but a speedart video showing the modeling / texturing process, which is what the animation is for, will hopefully be up by Friday.

For some projects I'm doing, I need a better handle on rigging and animating models for Unity. I spent today's practice time making a simple model and working with Blender's Weight Paint mode and its various tools. It seems pretty simple to get, but will probably take me a bit to fully grasp the different weights I need.

I did some more skinning practice by adding a few more pieces to yesterday's mannequin, today. Will probably move on to something else for practice tomorrow.

For today's practice, I went back to a spyglass model I made back when I first started doing 3D and rigged it for some more skinning practice. Will hopefully be getting into my next larger-scope project throughout the weekend, where I'll be able to put the skinning practice into more practical use.

Been working on my next project, for the past few days' daily practice. I'm making a magical grimoire based on some concept art I made right before Inktober started. So far, I've gotten the low-poly stage done, and have made some good progress into the high-poly sculpting phase. The cracked leather look needs more work before I'll be satisfied with it, but I think I've made a good start on it.

I added more fine-detail sculpting to my grimoire for today's 3D practice. Might do a bit more tweaking, but I think it's about ready for low-poly unwrapping and normal baking.

I did the UV unwrapping and normal map baking for my low-poly model, for today's time. Will likely start on texture painting later today.

I managed to get a lot of work into the first pass of textures on my grimoire project, today. Particularly had fun coming up with the design and writing for the pages that'll be shown in the animation.

I did some more refinements on the texture painting of my grimoire, and started applying them as gloss, diffuse, and emission materials, for today's time. Will move on to rigging and animation before I make some more adjustments on the maps, I think.

I took a break from the texturing to rig my book, today. I'll likely move on to animating it and do Unity testing, then go back for another pass or two of refinements on the textures before I consider the project done.

I got a ton done today, for my grimoire project! I not only did the second refining pass on my textures, but I also got the 3D animation done for it. And I started successful Unity animation tests. The only real issue right now is the odd shadows I'm getting on the shader for the pages, that I can see.

I made a pulpit for the renders of my grimoire, for today's 3D time. Still needs textures, but not bad progress for just over an hour, I think.

I almost entirely wrapped up my grimoire project, today! I textured the pulpit, and brought everything together for my render setup. Still need to do final animations for the speedart video and do some testing in Unity, but I think it came out pretty well!

I finished up the grimoire today with the speedart animations. I'll be doing some testing with Unity scripting for portfolio purposes, but the actual model and animation itself is now complete after just under 18 hours.

I did more work with the Unity portfolio part of my grimoire, today. There's still one more thing I want to let users do with it, but it's pretty much wrapped up now.

I used my 3D time today practicing my sculpting skills, trying to get a firmer grasp on stylized wood. Also, more normal mapping and texture painting, at the end.

I did some animation testing for a teleportation VFX idea I had, for today's practice. Still need to work a bit on the timing.

I worked on improving a sci-fi railgun rifle 3D modeling project I made back in August, for today's 3D time. I improved the high-poly version, normals, textures, rig, and animation, to make sure it would be fully functional in Unity. Still needs one more pass of improvement, but it's almost ready for portfolio, I think.

I started my next 3D project, Pandora's Box, today. I got through the first round of low-poly modeling for it, based on a concept sketch I did a few days ago.

I did the first pass of high-poly sculpting on Pandora's Pithos, for today's 3D time. Still planning to do some refinements on the jar's design, but I think it's off to a pretty good start, for the look I'm going for.

I didn't have much time to work on things, today, but I did manage to get the low-poly version of Pandora's Pithos UV unwrapped for future texturing. Will hopefully be getting into the high-poly sculpt refinements later today.

I had issues with Pandora's Box today, with corrupted files and being unable to get normal maps to bake properly. Not sure if the two are connected. Either way, in the end, I managed to salvage the mapped low-poly model, and decided if I was going to have to re-do the details of the high-poly anyway, I'd play it safe and just paint a normal map in Substance Painter. I did the prep work bringing it in, today, and will start doing the painting on it later today or tomorrow.

I started laying out the textures for texture painting my Pandora's Pithos project, for today's 3D time.

I did a lot more work on my Pandora's Pithos project for today's 3D. I started by painting the first pass of textures and the toning for them, then moved on to rigging the pithos jar and spirits. Will be moving on to animating things later today, and then likely do one or two more texture passes before it's ready for a speedart video on Friday.

I did the animations for Pandora's Pithos, for today's 3D time. I also did one last pass of texture-touchups, and looking at it, I have to say I made it pretty much identical to the concept art. Though the smoke isn't working as well as I'd hoped, so I may scrap that part for the final renders.

I finished up Pandora's Pithos today by doing some Unity testing for the materials, and I think it came out pretty well! Also did the last renders for my Friday release of the portfolio, Sketchfab, and Youtube entries.

For today's very brief 3D time, I started experimenting with animations and scripting in Unity. Not successful so far, but I'm optimistic about it, once I can dedicate a bit of time into learning it!

I did some wood and brick sculpting practice in Blender, for today's 3D time, and ended with a bit of Substance Painter normal map baking.
