I've posted a few WIPs of this scene in the WAYWO thread but I figured a would give this it's own thread at this point. This scene was done over a 6 week period for Jeremy Huxley's CGMA class "Vegetation for Games", which I would highly recommend to anyone. The majority of the foliage was sculpted in ZBrush and then baked out in Substance Designer. The tiling materials like ground, rock and bark were done in Substance Designer. I'd like to add a couple other things to the scene like smaller trees or saplings and even add vertex wind to the plants for a fly through video.
Fog looks fine to me -- isn't that sun rays coming through the canopy and shining on it? That's how I read it.
Can you provide a link or address where we can find this course in your OP? I use pluralsight for my learning but haven't found much in the way of natural environment modeling.

Looking pretty nice m8. Some real decent foliage. Love the trunk texture on the palm:) I think you could probably take out a lot of the fog though. It's washing out any colour variation you may have in your plants. Otherwise, looks sick.

Thanks, I started to tone down the fog.and also pulled back the brightness of the directional light so it doesn't blow everything out as much.
I love scenes like this, It makes me feel like i want to walk around and or explore ! Good job ! hopefully one day i too can create a beautiful scene like that.
Really nice stuff here! well done! I'm curious about the lighting. It looks good and soft. how you achieve this lighting? did you use GI like VXGI, LPV, DFGI, DFAO? And can you show the material of Foliage? that would be amazing!

Thanks, I'm glad you like the scene. I've been meaning to post more breakdowns and stuff, but I've just been really busy.
My lighting is static. I did up the indirect lighting bounces to 20 and the sky lighting bounces to 3 but the rest is pretty standard. The main thing that make this scene is the volumetric fog. I actually moved the scene to 4.18 but all the screens posted here were taken in 4.17 before they introduced volumetric lightmaps which makes the volumetric fog look better among other things.
My foliage material is really simple and might disappoint you. I do have a mask that is multiplied over the sub surface so only the leaves are affected but besides that it's simple.

Really well done by the way.
