Taking normal map photos on new phones

Hello, I'm getting a new phone and was looking for one with a good camera for taking texture photos. I was planning on picking up the Pixel 2 until I realized that the dual cameras in the new iPhones should in theory be able to determine depth. I thought, "wow, maybe there's some apps out there that create normal maps for your photos automatically". I searched around, but all I could find was an android app that makes normal maps from holding and moving a secondary light source around the image. So, is there any chance of some software coming out that will make life easier for some of us in terms of 3d texturing? The dual cameras seem pretty useless to me if they're not able to take some manner of 3d photograph.

The dual cameras do create a coarse approximation of real depth, but not nearly accurate enough for a normal map. The lenses intended usage are for doing post process refocusing, tilt shifting, etc which don't need much fidelity to visually pass. For the best results you should do something like what Allegorithmic detailed here:
