I still haven't gotten the ropes of Maya's UV unwrapping system. I tried to unwrap this UV shell here and got this, but I know there's a better way to unwrap this so it doesn't resemble a mangled worm. Can I get some advice?
I tried both the Axi's and Radiance's methods; both worked out surprisingly well! Ultimately went with Radiance's, though. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

Alternatively, use a planar projection from the correct projection axis.
2. shift double click the edge ring
3. stitch
4. shift right click hold -> unfold -> unfold along u
Or if you got the badass textools, use iron and then relax.
