i do find their example pretty weak to be honest - on their reeimport of stuff they don't even change the structure of the model. but its cool that we can now export to fbx.
That seems like a negligible speed increase. And I feel like Unity must have made some ugly agreements to get that source code access from Autodesk. They don't just give that away. FBX has been a black box to everyone for decades. Not to mention the fact that Autodesk has their own competing game engine.

Tim Sweeney has been fairly vocal about his dislike of FBX as a format, wouldn't surprise me to see Epic try to go the gITF route at some point.
