Well, when I'm looking at the render view and nothing shows up if using Arnold. If I use the other renderers the objects will show up. Doesn't matter if its a lambert or an Arnold material. In render settings it is set to Arnold. I've checked the visibility, lights and all the obvious solutions. Like I said, the other renderers show the objects... arnold shows nothing but black.

do you see the alpha channel?
if yes crank up the light to 2000 intensity and 10 exposure...

arnold lights needs a lot of power...

Also, I'm not able to change the lambert1 inside the attribute editor. Where it says Type. It is grayed out. I've noticed a correlation with these problems. And oglu, thanks for the help. I'm not sure about alpha channels... I'm a student and I'm not following.. wish I could! But I'm just using default lighting.

2000 intensity is overkill, unless the scale of the scene is huge. Arnold requires always an actual light present in the scene, otherwise it will always render black if you don't create one.

That's the default Maya material, it won't let you change it. You have to apply a new material via right click, assign new material. Or drag and drop one from hypershade. Nothing to do with Arnold in this case.

You might need to go to half million to see something. I've got a house scene and a couple of my lights are in 10 mil so I can get enough brightness over everything.

Also make sure Run IPR is checked on.
