3D modeling methods

Hello,
Im an IT student and Im writing a thesis about 3D modeling and animation.
Im asking you for help with listing and categorizing methods of 3D modeling. Every site which I visited propose different groups, even names for same methods. In the result I am confused and don't know which of it is correct from academical view.
In my thesis I would like to describe all kinds of methods, not only the ones which I will be using in making project as it is engineering paper.
So far this is the best what I have found:
