I am trying to make a huge map ( 8x8 Km) in unreal. I don't want to use world machine, I would like to use real life heightmap imagery. How should I go about this while keeping high fidelity in a 1st person view.
World Creator 2 just came out which is about 100x more user friendly than world machine.
As for real life data, you're restricted by the original image input. The best resolution your going to get is probably around 2048x2048. At 4m per pixel your resolution is going to be really bad.
You options are basically create the real height map than add detail in zbrush, substance painter or even photoshop to refine it.
