Hellooooo I am back again with a character that I've wanted to do for a while now. Saw this guy while following the Egyptian Character Design Challenge. Critiques and comments are always welcome!
Blocking for the character's body so far. I'm still tossing around the idea of fully modeling his mouth and eye sockets. It's not ultra necessary for the character but it would be a "fun" challenge.
Would love any thoughts/critiques on proportion and the hands. Hands feel off to me but can't quite pin what it is.
I think the weird thing about the hands is that the thumb is really short, it isn't even going beyond the palm of the hand, the block out looks very nice and clean.
really cool concept and good start so far. I definitely agree with @EnriqueGn on the thumb. also his neck seems a too long while his torso looks smaller than in the concept - particularly around his back
Thank you both @Jarran and @EnriqueGn for the suggestions on the thumb! I've lengthened it a little more so hopefully it's looking more natural.
Was out of town for a while and just got back to working on the character this week. I've finished the body details and blocked out the clothes. I'm liking how the jacket and pants are going so far. Sneakers still need a lot more shaping and love.
It's looking great, love how the jacket is coming out, the main thing I would point out is the nose, it seems it's a little a little bit longer on the concept and thinner on the top part, right now I think it feels like a nail. Keep up the awesome work!
Happy with how everything is coming along. In looking at the shoes in the front and side views, they need a little more height and maybe length to feel more natural.
Took a break from this to finish up my Gladiator game model but now I'm back to working on this dude. Planning to bring this guy into 3D-Coat and learn it.
Made some adjustments to the width of his hips and added shoe detailing such as stitching. They still look quite small on him so im going to have to fiddle around with the perspective and make size adjustments.
UVs are done~ Not sure how I feel about the seam placement on the head. Feels awkward. I'd love any suggestions on how to go about adjusting it to look better.
looks pretty fine to me. you could try cutting the edges around his nose and then from the base of his nose down to the mouth. then an edge from ear to ear one or two polygons back from the middle. and you could probably stitch the neck back on. that's how I've unwrapped puppies, cats, squirrels heads at work.
Damn that sculpt looks clean! Can't wait to see this guy all textured. I think the patch will definitely show up well enough as a normal (or painted), and his shoes turned out great!
