Hello!
I've been a hobbyist 3D modeler for years now. I've dreamed of becoming a game designer but haven't really felt my skills were up to par.
I've been out of college a few years now and have had a few failed projects, including a successful greenlight project that unfortunately was too much for our small team to finish.
My student version of 3ds max had run out and about two weeks ago I picked up Blender in order to continue practicing.
Id love to get some feedback from experienced modelers, and would value some direction on how I might get into an entry level position in the industry. In about two months I'd like to start working on my portfolio and challenging myself with new models.
Niyama : The kitsune witch
This is a character from our greenlight project : Kitsune Magic Shop. My goal was to capture an authentic anime art style. After the project was put on hiatus I continued to work on her and over the last year I've made many tweaks and improvements to the mesh and design. Upon getting Blender I recreated her one last time from the ground up and these are the results.
Id like to improve the background and make a proper cafe with an interior that you'd view through the window.
Also for the portfolio I'd like to make a low poly in-game version of her. Something I believe I need more practice doing is compressing my concepts into a low profile mesh, with minimal drawcalls. Something that resulted in me not getting my first paid gig actually > <
Jack Sparrow : Attempt at realism
This project puts me out of my element a bit. I've always been fascinated with cell shaded 3D graphics and the art of making 3D look 2D, but I know I need to keep up with realism as well. I'm currently stuck with how to tackle the hair, as it's pretty damn chaotic, and I'm not sure how best to handle dreadlocks realistically. Id appreciate some feedback on the face and the likeness. Ive had to redo this one twice already, it's quite challenging.
Thanks for taking time to read this, I'd appreciate any advice and I'll continue to post my progress!
