How to rig an ammo belt?

Hey guys,
I need some help rigging two ammo belts. One is fixed to an ammo box which is static and the other (ejector chute) connecting to a spent cartridge exhaust which swivels.
I have created a spline connecting the gun and the exhaust, and used a Path Deform to add the ammo belt but it looks rather distorted. to make matters worse, when the exhaust swivels, it breaks the entire setup.
Any help with this would be much appreciated. Cheers!
