Hey guys, So I've been trying to learn Maya recently. Figured I should do some sort of small project to learn the ropes of the program.
Right now I've mostly finished the back end and am slowly working on refining the front. I couldn't find a non destructive workflow like I use in Blender so instead I'm just creasing the edges for now and then will add bevels once I feel I won't need to change anything... If anyone knows of good non destructive workflows for modeling in Maya then let me know
Looks better now. Just the shoulder-pad at the end looks strange. No clue what it's made of but with the hard edges it looks like hard plastic, but I think the pad should be soft to absorb the recoil (or maybe I got something wrong here and the Tavor has a hard shoulder pad^^)
looking good! I agree about the shoulder pad. it's made of rubber, kind of like a soft car's tire. yours looks like hard plastic which is what being used on the micro tavor (X95)
Is this better? I smoothed it out quite a bit. Unfortunately I think I might be getting some of my references mixed up cause some of them are harder and some are softer.
So it's been quite slow up till now cause I've been having a ton of issues with Maya. Hopefully things will wrap up pretty soon now that I'm done with the Maya parts.
Some renders of the Tavor. Not sure if these are going to be final or not yet. Last image is from ue4 the others are rendered in Blender Cycles (I don't have marmoset toolbag for showcasing stuff so it's usually easiest to render it in Blender)

So I think the high poly is now done (except for the magazine, I'll do that later)
@Dethling So I threw pretty much everything into Zbrush and polished up the edges a bit. Think the bevels are wide enough now?
here are some WIP screenshots of the lowpoly wires

Top images are a test bake in substance painter.
