Hi Polycount!
I've been lurking here for too long changing/renaming accounts because I forgot the passwords of the former emails, sometimes forgetting the email itself. But I realized recently that it doesn't matter, even if I post something I doubt I'll instantly be noticed
It'll just be like as if I was still lurking but this way I have somewhat of an online diary of my learning my passion in CG. And so I'm gonna start my digital sketchbook here since polycount has been a huge help in me learning- hopefully someday I can give back to the community.
Cheers,
Phil

I'm currently participating in an Artstation Challenge.I'll journal some of my stuff here as well. Constructive critiques are welcome. But please don't be mad if I ignore it entirely
For this challenge I had a late start but might as well take that as an extra challenge.
I chose Yong Yi Lee's concept of Oriental Robotics
Concept Breakdown
Blocking Out / Design Exploration
Detailing the Head
Created some custom IMM brushes of my own & first time dabbling in zscript which is surprisingly not that hard.[2017 09 18]

For #Retrogasm2018 2nd RoundI;m doing Shorty from Bust-A-Groove as practice for doing game hair planes and brushing up on MD
Base Sculpt in ZBrush
1st Pass in MD
Rough Blockout
Shoe Sketch
WIP 3
Initial face details, hair proxy & clothing
MD 3rd pass
Note2Self: keep unweld and get UVs
Rough pass for Columbo the EZmouse
Didn't work as well as I expected it to but maybe I just got lazy placing them properly. hmm...
Softened the Hair so silhoutte would look better
Bake went well, I think I can manage to salvage this.
a bit rushed but he takes up very little on screen.
Honestly this project is taking it toll on me. I kinda want to jump to the Artstation one as soon as I finish this.
I like how this stage turned out. and quite fast (for me anyway) -probably could be better with a bit more love and reviews form another pair of eyes...
Just Flat Textures + Normals inside maya.
turnout nice enough. Learn a lot. this is almost over. (At least I think I'm about ready to let this one go)
Marmoset Setups next.
I'm calling this done. More images at my Artstation page https://www.artstation.com/p/BrkQ6
Project Self Notes:
-When exporting from MD, keep unweld and get UVs.
-Its better if you texture first then layout haircards.
-Had issues in mouth corners, I wonder if bakign with an open mouth would give better results.
-seems that less uv islands are better particularly in organic models.
