I've seen a lot of time lapse videos for head modeling, but this particular one blew me away:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac4qV2uIF3QI have a LOT to learn about head and facial modeling, but one thing that I think is holding me back is that I am always trying to avoid triangles and ngons at all costs.
This particular video fascinates me because, if you watch carefully, you'll see that the artist is creating several five and three sided polygons throughout the modeling process. But then those regions eventually become quads. He / she adds edge loops ( some of them seemingly manually, others automatically ) and does a lot of cutting of polys which I have been trying to avoid, but it seems legal if you just keep the "loop" and continue cutting it throughout the local area that you're in .
Anyway, I saw this on another thread so I know this video has been posted before, but got dang ..... this is pretty amazing. The final mesh still does have a few ngons and tris but they are not disrupting the flow of the edge loops throughout the model.
Everything I'm doing is for games so my interest is in low poly.. and this method completely seems suitable for low poly modeling if you stop before adding too much detail.
