Hello, i have learned the basics of most of the softwares for 3D modelling and i have found that i do not enjoy using Maya or 3D Max. but i did love to sit in mudbox so i am simply wondering if you can build good 3D models using mostly/only Zbrush or Mudbox. the way i was taught was to convert from 3D max to mudbox a very basic object and then expand on it. but is it possible to create the base using only Zbrush/Mudbox ? if it is can you recommend any techniques for that. which tools to start out with and so on.
if i am to motivate myself into learning and doing more i need to enjoy it and i just dont enjoy using 3D Max at all..

With that said, I really dont think its a good idea.
Id say a box modeling program is pretty much mandatory if you want any sort of flexibility. even though zbrush have things like Zmodeler and UV master they by no way replace the straight forward and standardized controls and utility of a program like Max or maya.
have you tried Modo and/or blender?
In the end, If your only gonna use Zbrush or mudbox you are pretty much stuck to doing concept sculpts or highpoly characters.
with that said, if your just starting, doing so with one program isnt a bad idea, and ad on more programs as you go.
Mudbox has no basemesh creation features. You need to feed it.
Zbrush is amazing and can do a huge amount but, as lotet mentioned, you are only limiting yourself by not having a 3d DCC package at your disposal.
