Trying to make more tiles in the Max MultiTile material so I can clean bake a lower res model in substance.
So far I have 2 tiles in the uv editor after pressing the 'Show multi tile button. The compact uv editor shows its possible to add tiles with a button,.... but it dont work :) . Adding material maps doesnt work. Can any of you guys help? I have changed the display prefs to show 4 tiles and tile bitmap in the uv editor.

    The tiles will be displayed as soon as there's some geometry in them - move a cluster there and see.

    Thanks Swordslayer and musushudan! I am busy with the uvs at the moment and splitting them into different uv areas works just fine. Thanks for the video link musushudan. I have it bookmarked :) If I get stuck with ex[port would be great to ask you here.

    Ah so I have finished the uvs, they are in different squares but the material editor wont budge form a one tile count. Exporting the mesh as an fbx from max and importing in substance painter 2 sees the different texture sets and numbers them appropriately. Trying to bake a normal map substance stays on 0% bake so something is wrong. I wonder what I an doing incorrectly?

    Ok a bit further. Im having a tough time creating the material in Max 2017. In the multitile area of the standard material it seems I have to place a map in the slot. Tiff jpg and targa give me an error: invalid file pattern format when the UDM File Pattern Format is set. The tiffs for example are set to 8bit like they are in the youtube tutorial.

    Without the correct material everything imports to substance correctly but baking returns errors.

    Hey man, not sure why you're having those problems. I render in Vray myself so I don't use the multi-tile map. I use vray Hdri map and just edit the udim tag.

    Not sure what you mean by the mat edit won't budge from a 1 tile count?

    The udim baking is still a bit broken, I think.  I know that there was a serious bug with cage baking using udims but don't know if it's been fixed since.

    Personally I'll steer clear of udims in SP until they're fully supported.  Otherwise I don't see the point in using them. I use Mari for offline character texturing if I'm using udims.

    Hey thanks musashidan. I thinl I will let this one go till I can explore a bit more. There may be something I am missing in the whole process as I havent used multitile before.
