In 3dsmax , you could bake a "diffuse map" that is basically a color map. This way you could also bake some other types maps as well, if you have. This feature probably exists in the most of 3d modeling applications. So this process would be basically the same as when you bake a normal map from a highpoly to a low, but in this case, you would bake the high poly mesh texture to the lowpoly.
