Hi I'm a student in a gaming course and I've been trying to reduce the mesh of my character for a while now however every time I try to retopologise my character the intial polycount grows larger instead of smaller. Please help and thank you for your replies!

This is the original being 3,338,240 tris

This is the reduced mesh composed of 66,763 tris ready for retopologising

Just to show what settings I used. I won't show the outcome of the retop but trust me its terrible; mostly it just multiplies the polycount and removes all detail shown. I'm definitely just being noobish with the software. Thanks for reading

a good face topo is made by hand... and i dont want todo something is the wrong attitude if you want to be an artist.... you have to work as hard as possible...
try doing a topo that works for your puprose first and sculpt on that, eliminates or greatly reduces the retopo step.
