No need for the douchey reply. AFAIK Pixologic hasn't announced anything more than they did at the summit. 4r8 was billed as adding cool features meant for zbrush 5 but sooner since it wouldn't be out for awhile. One might have expected a release at the beginning of the year but since we are far removed from that a release at SIGGRAPH or their next summit might be in the cards.
I'm sort of hoping that because of the delay between announcement and release of 4r8 that version 5 makes it out this year, then again we might just end up with 4r9 in 2018.
well. the updates are still free of charge considering that this is the leading sculpting software in the industry, its pretty amazing
Don't you expect free updates for any software between versions though? For $800 I certainly do. Plus some of what they're adding are standard in other packages or 1 or 2 new features that are at best hit or miss. shrug, still fun to sculpt in it just not too excited by the zsmug summits.
so far i had 14 years of free updates, the software cost less than half back then. nope this is certainly not a given. looking at any software that is not blender.
Alright I'm wrong - sorry I besmirched the zbrush lords. You have to admit those summit tease things are annoying. "Oh... look what I did.. I moved a vert you like that?" *sound of clapping and chortling siccophants*
Um, Vertex Displacement Maps are pretty cool. Sounds like you're at that bitter stage of your game dev career.
Zbrush has gotten so much better since it launched, it's really a wonderful program. It's practically non destructive now.
update: 23 minutes in, how can this not get you excited. This is relevant to character and environment artists.
Non destructive boolean workflow? Guess I'm a sycophant *eyeroll*
I'm amazed the crowd didn't cheer at the speed zbrush makes a union mesh from such complicated booleans. But there were only 2-3 people who clapped when he asked about 3d printing or hard surface modelers, seems like the crowd were mostly sculpters.
Modo with Meshfusion is $2,000. Marvelous is $500 for one version or $20 a month, if Zbrush adds a decent cloth sim in, heck yeah I'd be excited, especially since Marvelous doesn't put out the most sculpt friendly mesh.
Zremesher, Dynamesh and the polish brushes, to name a few features, delivered on their hype and are a daily part of my process.
