WIP - The Nux Car

Hi. This is my first post here. Few days ago I saw an amazing Ratrod beetle car model by Mathew O'Halloran and it inspired me to make a similar car. But I decided to make the Nux car from Mad Max movie as detailed as I can and wanted to share my progress with you. Of course one of the hardest parts as always was to find good references. I found hundreds of pictures from internet and made many SS from movie itself. So if you want I can share them too.

And any feedback is welcome

A little bit of progress. This is personal project so it goes really slow. The lack of the good reference images makes progress even slower.

Really impressive so far.  The air filters look awesome and the tail pipes do too.

Thank you very much. It can sound strange but I do not have any idea what exactly is air filter here . I like to model such things but I do not know what is what

Love the detail, and that ludicrous twincharger! I'm a car enthusiast and your interpretation of the references you used for the engine are perfect. I wouldn't have guessed that you had no idea what part the air filter was.

So I know what is air filter and twin charger now , LOL. I searched in google. Air filter was easy to find. But twincharger showed me many stuff so it was hard to realise what exactly is twincharger. 

And when I searched a twincharger I understand that I modelled it wrong. Because of reference images I could't see other side of it. So I thought it is just round. And coulnd't understand where exactly the pipe under it goes. Now I understand that there is hole and the pipe connetcs to it. So I will fix this.

New update after long time. Almost done with engine and began the interior. Still needs lots of work. Finding references is harder than modelling

After long time I came back to my Nux Car model and almost finished the steering wheel. This is what I could achieve with limited reference images.

After a long time I made little a progress. Bird skull was created in Zbrush.

Hi again. Another little progress after long time. Front tire. Cooper Discoverer or something like this )) Worked on proportions of car body a little bit.

Glad you liked it I used boolean only for that little ornament/Logo type piece which in the bottom of the tire threads and connect every two of them. But other tread pieces are just separate objects. I created them in straight line with correct count. If I am not wrong there must be 42 treads. After that I used bend deformer and bended them 360 degree. The trick part was only to create those treads on perspective picture which was too difficult to find to me. Even now they are not 100% correct. Middle treads must be a little longer which I will fine tune in future ))

I have a love/hate w booleans.  Doing it straight and then bending it after makes so much sense with how you describe it

For booleans, I only use zbrush live boolean. Nothing else. So much easy and straight forward and flexible. After that I imported them to Modo and retopoed. ))

Hey everyone After a long long time I had free time and decided to UV and texture Nux's wheel and after that to go further modelling with car itself. The new texel density tool is amazing in Modo 11. Total time saver.

OMG! It has been 2 years and I haven't finished this yet Today, after 1 year of last update I did a little bit of texturing in Substance painter. Hope I will finish this project while I am alive.
