New to Digital Painting

Hey guys avid 3d guy here trying to learn more 2d forms and how light works. Currently working on my 4th painting and im using Black hawk down as inspiration.
I'm working in photoshop and feel I am having difficulty visualizing how saturation might be better applied to give more variation in color, texture and lighting. I'd say I'm about 35% done with this painting and have learned a lot so far!
