Hi all! I've been plugging away at my Artstation challenge entry. I've been wanting to an environment in the style of old Orientalist paintings for a long while and thought I'd try a mashup with this great Keyframe Concept by my talented friend Lap Pun
Cheung.

I haven't worked on a project outside the Mobile scene for a while so it's been a real splash of cold water to the face, haha! I spent the first week or two learning Substance Designer, which has already paid off as Immediately made it a core part of a new project at work! Otherwise its been quite slow figuring out the scene and trying to find the time to work on this.

Still I've been going at it for a couple of weeks so I'll bring this thread up to speed.

I've decided to keep the focus on the central bridge rather than over-reach with the background elements. But I really want to nail the Egyptian/Arabic look on the building here. I have an idea in my head about underwater elements beneath the surface but it's strictly a "not now" idea.
I made a paintover of the bridge to guide me. Maybe too European looking?
And after modelling, sculpting and UV'ing I got the bakes in this weekend:
I've been working on other scene elements like the underside of the buildings, but haven't got the game meshes sorted out yet.
Working on water tomorrow!
I used Epic's learning resource water as a starting point. It looks pretty good out of the box but there are some more things I need to add in, such as pond scum and bubbles around the edges. That might end up being vertex painted.
I also played around with lighting and skies some more. Closer to the mood I want but there will have to be some points of colour in the textures to break up this grey!
Gif of the weekends progress!
I'll get some UE4 images soon.

Back to UE4 now!
So long marmoset!
Very nice bricks
You got all the primary secondary and tertiary in there! Looking forward to seeing more
I have all the base materials, and all my bakes... I just can't stop tweaking long enough to put them together!
what's going on the bridge:
@Mossbros: It's tesselation and displacement in marmoset. I can rig that up in UE4 but if this was a practical environment I would just make it actual geometry. Heck I might still do that..
I've been trying to hit a much more stylised lighting theme today - closer to the original keyframe concept. Still alot to do on the building assets and then I have the surrounding environment to block in... Well I'll see how much I can do in a day and a half!
