Maya - Replace All Instanced Geometry?

Hello.  I was just wondering if it was possible to replace all instanced geometry in Maya.  For instance if I instance a bunch of bolts, but export it into something external to unwrap like Headus; could I re-import that unwrapped geo back into Maya and replace all the non uv'ed instances of it with the uv'ed one?  Just curious if this was possible in Maya since you can easily do it in 3DS Max by attaching instanced geo to a second piece of geo, then the second geo will duplicate everywhere the instanced geo is.  Thanks.
