Working on a spooky forest scene in UE4 that I hope to finish in the next couple of days. This is still an early WIP, but I think the atmosphere is solid.
@Shirk Loving this so far! I know this is still an early WIP and the church isn't done but I would suggest when modelling to make sure that the silhouette of the church is broken up. Also the rocks are sticking out to me, they look like someone came with a truck load of really round rocks, all around the same size, and began placing them all over the scene. Looking forward to seeing how this comes scene turns out!
Thanks guys! I hope once I have the church worked on that the scene will begin to shape up even more. Heres a very bad quality video of some of the rolling fog. Im not sure if or how to post webm videos on polycount.
Really cool! I like the lighting and silhouettes a lot! If you are going for that smoke moving maybe give some of the grass and twiggs some movement as well.
Looking cool. I would add some height variation to the landscape as it gets toward the trees, seems a bit flat world right now. Even further back, some banks and hills can let you have a bit more depth to the forest without needing endless trees or to push the fog too far (though obviously the fog suits)
The outside shots are looking amazing and you sure have the mood pinned down! As for the inside shot, I don't know U4E that well but maybe try to get the light of the candles to feel more like its actually coming from the candle, maybe with an Emissive map to get the wax ,at the top, to look like its being lit transparent ?

There is actually something odd going on, current Im using SSS to simulate the glow of the candle, but its only working from certain directions.
Thanks! Originally I just had a PostProcessing volume with some colour changing, and a stationary skylight. Ive added a very, very dim directional light. Atmospheric fog is used to replace the skybox as well. There is no custom HDRI but I might look into it.
I love where this is going! What are you planning to add to the scene? I personally would like to see if you could get in some color somewhere, like having a crashed car for example with the tail lights lighting up an area with red. Just my opinion, but I am looking forward to see what you are going to add to this.

Thanks! Its quite hard to think of ways to add sources of colours to the scene without drastically changing the colours in the scene, and breaking a specific vibe Im trying to get. I have added a small crude camp site, but aside from this I think Im going to wrap up the scene as I dont want to clutter the forest since its meant to be empty and dead.
Also here is a comparisons between Epic and Low settings aside from the resolution, both get 120 fps on my 1070.

It reminds me of the movie "the witch", i can't say specifically why, but my guess it is because of the mood + church + fog.
also loved the mood, this going to looking good
Looking forward to seeing it come along
How did you set up your sky/lighting? Is it just atmospheric/height fog or are you using some custom HDRIs?
