Hi Polycount, couple of years ago I was on the lookout for a mobile app that would let me show my models and stuff without having to connect to the internet to use Sketchfab, I waited and waited for someone else to do it for me but an app that suited my needs never came. I'm a 3D generalist and now a technical artist too, so I decided to take it upon myself and I'm on it.
In a short description, what is 3DMOP? It's a mobile app you can use to show your models without having to connect to the internet.
Neat features:- Import OBJs, Unity Asset Bundles (with animations), and now FBXs too!
- Import any texture readable by Unity's Standard Material
- Choose a shader and matcap from the library
- Import your own skybox or choose from the library
- Light presets
- You can drag and drop the files from your computer or download them directly to your phone and then move them to the correct folder. **
** I'm trying to make this as automatized and smooth as possible.
I'm also looking into the possibility of importing Unity Particle Systems through Asset Bundles and your own shaders.
I've got a pretty good prototype version ready, as it is right now it successfully accomplishes it's goal of letting you showcase your work without having to ever connect to the internet (plug your phone to your computer, drag and drop your files, run the app and you'll have them there) but it still needs some work with optimization, UI, camera controls, and some other cool features that I want to add before launch (like VR compatibility). I also need to test it with other devices and users and fix bugs that will come out. You can sign up for testing it
here.
The thing is that I'm in a situation in which I cannot work on this and comissions to pay off the bills, I don't have enough time and energy to do both, but I know this app is a good product, it's something that a lot of people will find useful, it's totally worth it, and I would love to be able to release it this summer, so I decided to give it a try with an
Indiegogo Campaign and I need your help.
This is the latest video:
I'm going to start sending out test builds this weekend to gather feedback but unless
the campaign picks up I can't really work on this full time so if I don't reach at least half my goal I think it won't be possible to launch it before June.
Anything helps, sharing, backing with $1, backing with $5, testing, feedback (about the app and/or the campaign), anything is appreciated
UPDATE (26/03/17): Improved camera controls and made a how-to video to show you how easy it is to import your own models

And hey that idea is great, I hadn't thought about that and really like it.. I'll be adding that to the list for post-launch features!
It has improved camera controls. Right now what I'm looking for with this test is to see how the UI looks with different devices (if you have a tablet then even better) and stretch-test the OBJ importer, see if you have any models that don't import correctly or something, what's the highest poly mesh you can successfully import.
You can try it out here

Added instructions section in-app and you can import FBXs now!
No textures for FBXs yet, but I'm working on that.
