Hide parts of a large texture document while working??

I have been wondering about this for a while. Lets say you have a large texture you are working on and in order to improve performance and file save duration, you can select an area and hide the rest of the document so you can work on that part alone. Is this possible in a 2d painting app like Photoshop, krita ? This is possible in ZBrush and some 3d painting apps.

Not in the same way that you can in ZBrush, no: the pixels of the whole document area are always evaulated. What you can do is toggle visibility of layers and effects to help performance, or organize layers into groups so you can toggle a whole set at once.

Ok. Thanks. It would be cool if there was something like this though for texture artists using 2d painting apps.
