Hi Guys,
This theme is a little different to the others as its more about analyzing a style and creating something awesome based on that. Think over-the-top, fast paced, action sequences that you see in a lot of anime series' (eg. One Punch Man, Dragonball Z, Full Metal Alchemist.. to name some of the mainstream shows).
It can be a long sequence or a super short looping sequence, or somewhere in between. A lot of it relies on key poses and dynamic cameras, bringing across high intensity and speed while making sure everything is still readable. Push the rigs as far as you can and really exaggerate those poses.
A few very different examples are below but all use similar techniques, a lot of which goes against things animators are generally taught but is still super appealing to watch and is being used more and more in recent mainstream movies.

Right now a big thing I needa re-examine is the timing of the action and deciding what sections get more or less frames to sell the move. From some guidance I realized allot of these anime actions have such a tiny amount of frames for the action themselves and focus immensely on selling the anticipation and after pose of the motion, then the motion itself.
also @Green_Cheek_Conure looking good! some of the attacks are reading nicely with the speed/snap you have already. Keep it up! If you decide to push it more, remember to add some stretch/smears
I think I've started too big but will cut mine down. I should have a block out to show tomorrow!
Roughed in a second shot - it's somewhere between layout & blocking. The top of the jump is a bit quick, so may hold that a little longer so you can focus on her face (to be added later). Also need to tweak the start of the second shot...think she's entering frame a bit too quick/may keep her offscreen for a frame or 2. I hope to add a shot to start this that shows her getting into the run - but I'll probably polish this stuff first/make sure its done.
I decided to start again today and focus more on analyzing a shot and see it more as a learning process than an original fight scene. I went too big on my first idea so have started blocking a shot from One Punch Man.
Still got a way to go but I've learnt a lot from this shot already.
Are you playing around with camera focal length at all? Could try animating it so it increases during the fist swing to make his fist much larger than his head/create some interesting perspective changes
Feeling closer and closer to what I want to achieve!

It's called KUIYU CHOUYUAN. A bit too far with the violence though.
Keep it up.
The drag of the punch is very satisfying to watch.
melviso thanks for posting that video, I was looking for an anime fight (That wasn't attack on titan) like that with the cables/wires at the beginning.
I apologise if the gif is a bad quality.
Here is my layout , I should have the first pass by tomorrow or in 2 days
3 camera should be familiar for people who watched My hero academia :P!!

P.S. DON'T Look at this from any other ankle it looks hillarious : P
Feels sweet! Fast and has great impact!
My only comment would be if your intention was to make the camera a POV of the enemy, that it feels too heavy on the breathing.
Even if it makes sense to be breathing that hard in a fight, from a viewers perspective it takes away from the animation when moving around that much. Tone down the breathing/movement on the camera a bit imo.
That red eye adds a lot to it Lykarus! awesome!
@Arturow Thank you ^^ , nice my hero academy like animation btw. love that anime and can't wait to see your animations final result : D
I don't know the aproach everyone is doing but a lot of people use the after effects packs from different guys , here is an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vReWGLc_g50

@KyleG Is there a tutorial on how to add glow to geometry from Maya in After effects? That sounds like a really unique method!
In after effects I key out the green and layer that video on top of the first, which allows me to add fx to it without affecting the other video
I can make a quick video tomorrow that shows the steps if thats helpful
Here ya go
I don't just use this method for FX, often I'll playblast different elements of the scene separately which allows me to tweak lighting/adjust things separately in AE

Here is a WIP from my shot. Still got a lot of work left to do
@Lykarus Nice! , that 2 shot is completely on side view? or why it doesn't have floor ;O that's tripping me out lol, great work!
Updated with all shots, I will go back and start polishing adding effects and anime stuff

Some inspiration from the game "Battleborn" FX animation if someone wants to incorporate 2D into their shots:

@animator_zohaib That's really nice, where did you get the 2D effects from? Or did you make them yourself?
@KyleG Nice Kyle! I love the zoom in on the eyes and the build up in the run. That turned out great!
@Arturow Love it! The launch into the punch is awesome!
