not sure what to call her, but the concept I'm basing this off of is simply called Strange.
Raquel Cornejo is the artist. See the original
here. It's pretty amazing work.
Mostly blocking everything at the moment. The backpack is deviating from the original design, as I try to figure out how to build it. Still very much a wip.
Any comments or critique welcome.

Really like that pack.
If you are going to pose her later, I guess it doesnt matter. But if not, I think the weight pulls back quite a bit. She doesnt seem to be able to keep her balance like this.
Looking forward to seeing where this goes!
that's a good point about her current pose, hadn't notice that. I do intend to pose her at the end, but I may make some adjustments now so she doesn't feel too off balanced.
added to fav
more please
Things have been going slow lately, sorry for the slow updates. Spent a lot of time cleaning up topology, getting the model ready for my final sculpting pass. I have not done anything with the arms or legs yet, so that is just my smoothed basemesh.
Hope you all enjoy!
I'm also playing around with an astrogirl concept that uses a few similar elements so I'm definitely dropping your sculpt into the inspiration board.
Yeah, I was thinking the egg at the bottom was a sort of seat she could rest against.
Nice you render this in keyshot or zbrush ?
The thin-smooth hands looked scary but I just read you didnt touch those parts yet so I'm reassured.
@Tits Thank you. I try not to make eye contact with those fingers...because they are a bit creepy in their current state.
Just a bit more work on her hair, and on the jacket greeble.

Here's a bit of progress, making my way down the arm. Why do hands always take way longer than expected?
The only thing I can think of is that the nose feels a little bit pushed in, or like she's pulling it downwards...
@Elithenia Thank you. That's a good call out. Still working my way through the face. I'll keep that in mind as I work
@lotet i'll explore that soon, thanks for the feedback!
@JLeeD Thanks! I did the initial blockout in zbrush, just so I could play with the design. Then I went back to Maya to retopo and make a clean mesh for the final result.
Did a little more work on the pose. Starting to get something I like.
@jimsvanberg thanks man!
@kreativbloc thank you. Yeah, I agree. I'll have to think a bit about the design there. For now I'm going to concentrate on the pose, and circle back to that. Thanks for the feedback!
Small pose tweaks tonight. I was sick over the weekend, so no real progress made. Just did an hour tonight after work.
I'm hoping to spend a fair amount of time working on the pose this week. Here is the update from tonight. I'm starting to feel good about it in general, and plan to start refining down the shapes and more subtle things.
I really appreciate the feedback @NinjaSocks. That is something that has gone through my mind. My intention with the final composition is to add some fx in photoshop to help show some propulsion from the rocket pack. Whether that is some glow fx or a heat sheen, or something else entirely I haven't figured out. If that's successful my hope is that it will add some believe ability to her current pose, without having to lean her too far forward. That being said, I will probably be tweaking the pose continuously through the project, so I will keep your comment about the cog in mind. Thank you!
Here are a couple nit picky things to look at:
1. Her right arm pose could be pushed/angled out slightly from the shoulder so that its not so close to the body which will make her feel like she's trying to balance a bit better.
2. since her right forearm arm is extending and rotated out, it would be nice to see a slight rotation with the upper arm (mainly push the bicep out) to help the anatomy flow better.
3. Add some overlapping folds to her dress where she is pinching on her side
Heres a quick paintover:
I also did a little more polypaint, and blocked in some basic colors on all subtools. It's very early for that stuff, and I need to unify the colors across the piece as a whole, but starting to feel more and more complete.
Again, I appreciate all the feedback and comments. Thanks all!
@carvuliero Thank you so much for the feedback! I really appreciate it, and it will help make my next pieces stronger. In this piece I was deliberately trying to contrast simple straight lines on the right to more complex shapes and curves on the left. I like the juxtaposition of the two elements, although I can see the appeal and grace of your suggestions. Maybe in my next piece I will attempt to try and capture that flow. Again, thank you so much for the time to critique this!
Here are the finalized images. I like the quote "Finished not perfect" because that just about describes this work. Thank you all again!
