I wanted to start a thread of just painting and 2d traditional art to better my eye and hand as an artist. Any an all feedback and critiques are welcome. I would love to hear what's working / not working. Cheers
I find the depth works nice and the color contrast gives a good focal point. Although the grungy/rough style looks cool, I find that except as a draft for an overall painterly style for a game, there are only limited applications. If you're just experimenting, that's perfectly fine. However, if your goal is to improve in 2D in general, I find that using this "stencil" method can actually be counter productive and keeps you from solving real issues by masquerading them. (How do I render bark / stones / clothes etc ?). Still lifes are, in that matter, the most boring, yet most rewarding exercise in my opinion.

On another note, wouldn't the digital sketchbooks sub-forum be more suited towards your intentions ?

One way or the other, keep up the work!
