[ZBrush] Decimation Master doubling polys

 I have a model that is ~3mil polys, I duplicate it as a separate subtool and I am setting up DM to 5k polys in quality. I pre-process current and then hit Decimate current... after a long weight my polypaint is missing and the model goes to ~6mil polys.

Any thoughts?

You have decimation set to 100% and 3 million points, that is going to give you the same number of points as your current mesh.

I'm not eve sure how you set it to 100% with 5k polygons, normally decimation master will adjust the sliders to match the target polygon count.

Edit: Not sure why your polypaint button is missing.

yeah, whenever i change to 5k it ramps up the percentage to 100 and the points to 3079.7911. i tried moving the percentage but I cant get the count to go low enough.

A better DM workflow is to decimate ro 20% and preprocess again. Then decimate again. Doing staged deci like this will better retain the original forms. Then tweak the % till you get what you want. Decimating straight from 3m to 5k is an intensive op.
