I'm trying to finish a few bakes of my model and cant for the life of my figure out what the issue is. I've played around with the ray distance and I basically cant get rid of the error that you can see in the pictures. My low poly model is very close to the high so I dont see an issue but it wont bake that small bottom half of the wood. The same issue is present on the other side. I'm using Maya LT to do my UV unwraps. Can anyone give me some advice or help please. Much appreciated.
I haven't tried, but I think Maya LT doesn't have a custom cage option unless someone can correct me? I've tried looking for custom cages in Maya LT but found nothing.
Have you tried to uncheck 'average normals'? I had to bake a similar door recently and I had to manually combine a bake with and without average normals. You can do this by painting a mask or with this plugin: https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/2310

You shouldn't have to 'hack' a bake like this. I thought those days of guesswork and hacking were long behind us. Do you know why you check/uncheck averaged normals? It helps if you understand what's going on/understand the theory when an NM gets baked.
You're baking averaged verts with no cage on 90 degree corners. It's probably ray intersection.
What is your set up? What is your process and checklist you tick off before baking?
I dont really know what you mean by my process. I generally retopologize the model and do a few test bakes to see how the bakes look. If things aren't working I try to play around with the vertices to try and fix the errors.
Can you explain a better method to this? Maybe a tutorial I can watch?
