Here's a bit of progress from a sculpture a started the day after one of our group sessions. It's done with Laguna WED clay and is my new favorite clay to work with!
Hey all! As Dave mentioned, a group of us have started getting together to sculpt. We've all wanted to get back into it for a while, so we decided to make it a group effort. Push each other. Help each other out.
We may be cross posting from our sketch book threads.
It's worth noting that everyone involved met through polycount meet ups in Toronto.
My past sculpting experience is limited. I think before this, I have made about 5 or 6 sculptures. All were at least 10 years ago. I am also an animator, so modelling in general is not my strong suit. Hoping to change that! So let's dive in!
Here is my first sculpt. Not done yet. I've got another session or two I want to do before starting the next. But I'm pretty happy with it so far. Plenty more to learn though.
I'm using Chavant medium clay.
Crits are always welcome. Tips and tricks are evening better
modelNice work buds! I'm glad to be getting back into some traditional sculpting. My plan, since I dont have much space to keep a bunch of my projects around, is to 3d scan each of them after they're done. That way ill get a chance to learn another thing Ive been meaning to get into. This first scan was done by my brother, he showed me the ropes, we had lots of issues getting it captured so hopefully future scans will turn out better.
Here's what I ended up doing at our latest gathering. I didn't maintain it at all so it's cracked in a few spots. I don't intend to take this further though, as it was more of a learning/exploration exercise.
So far I have been focusing more on poses and I have been accessing what I remember of anatomy rather than directly referencing any. It's time that I start some active studies after this one, as well as focusing on proportions at the armature stage.

I was trying to remember what Clay Fighter was called but I couldn't think of it when I named the thread lol

I think I spread the face out too much. The nose isnt wide enough. Hair is... enh. Need to figure out how to do hair nicely.
I'm happy with the over all sculpt, but i know i can do better next time. Practice!
