Full-Time Level Narrative Designer

Hot Glue Games is an independent video game studio in Kanata, Ontario Canada.  We’re a small passionate team aspiring to make compelling video game experiences rich in story, emotion, immersion and meaningful gameplay for PC and consoles.

We are seeking a Level Designer to work alongside our team on an unannounced PC title! We are currently looking to recruit candidates from backgrounds in Interactive Multimedia and Design, Video Game Development or similar to join our team to build and implement exciting narrative elements into the game.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for designing, developing and implementing and testing level maps
  • Define placement for interactive objects and enemies
  • Script multiple cut scenes and in game events
  • Assist other designers in designing various game elements and levels
  • Prepare and present level design documents to the team
  • Responsible for designing, developing and implementing narrative elements into the game
  • Responsible for creating narrative aspects including world building, character building, story and plot developments (themes, main plot beats, struggles etc.)
  • Create stories and episodic storylines, gameplay-driven narratives, cinematics and character dialogs
  • Rapidly storyboard ideas in collaboration with artists
  • Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure that a high quality is maintained across all areas of the game
  • Responsible for most text in the game


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Passion for making and playing great games!
  • Understanding of player focused game design techniques
  • Previous game development experience in personal projects or released games
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Responsive to criticism and feedback, not afraid to start over
  • Self-Motivated, hard-worker who works well under deadlines with strong communication skills and work ethic


PLUSES:

  • Past work done in comic books, television, script writing, blogs or other writing outlets professionally or personally
  • Experience with working in Game Engines
  • Knowledge in scripting game elements
  • Familiarity with Source Control
  • Experience with working in localization
