There are multiple ways as always in 3D modeling, here's one way:
You could start with a plane>inset the face>delete the inset face>clone the mesh 'X' times, arrayed in a row>attach them>weld the verts between the clones>delete the end face either side to give the 'C' shape>select all the faces and extrude(or use a shell modifier in 3dsMax or similar in whatever package you use)
