RealtimeUK are currently looking to recruit a Lead Modeller who is creative, flexible and passionate in their approach to working in CG animation for high end cinematics and short films.
This is a supervisory/hands on role and you will be as proficient as a line manager as you are a 3D modeller/texturer. Liaising with the CG director and senior team on a daily basis, you will be able to assess each project’s requirements and guide the modelling team to submit assets & content which meets the required standard. You will be experienced in modelling hard and soft subject matter, both practice and evangelise efficient modelling processes, understand good topology for high resolution rendering, have the ability to find solutions to common problems and understand where to place detail based on the individual project requirements. You will have the ability of producing real world as well as stylised models together with amazing texturing. You will understand modelling using subdivision and adding appropriate detail with sculpting software.
It’s vital that you have the experience of leading and inspiring a team of modellers with mixed levels of skill and seniority, as you’ll have both the ownership and responsibility for the quality of the final assets. You will also have input into expansion of your modelling team and be responsible for input in their appraisal.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead and manage a team of artists, at varying levels of seniority and skill level.
Working with the management team to define project requirements and timescales, and ensuring that both departments are aligned in terms of project goals and expectations.
Maintain clear channels of communication between the Modelling team and the Project Directors & Producers.
Providing feedback and mentorship to the team to advance their modelling skills as much as possible.
‘Gatekeeper’ for final asset output from the modellers, ensuring that the assets meet quality bars and benchmarks for quality, specification, style and format.
Proactively maintain an efficient and productive workflow and pipeline for the team, and investigate where optimisations and further efficiencies can be attained.
Perform risk assessments and forecast any potential obstacles to asset production.
Providing hands on modelling support as and when required (both polygonal and sculpting).
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:
Strong knowledge of 3D modelling packages (3Ds Max, Maya, etc).
Strong knowledge of 3D sculpting packages (ZBrush, Mudbox, etc).
Strong knowledge of 3D painting/texturing packages (Mari, PhotoShop, etc).
MUST HAVE SKILLS & QUALITIES:
Time served background in CG/VFX or Animation industries.
Experienced as an art team leader or manager for a major project or production studio.
Strong communication skills, ability to discuss and negotiate between personnel at all levels.
Good organisation, schedule and time management skills.
Ability to mentor less senior modellers/texturers, and identify development areas.
Respectable background as a hands on CG Artist, expert in modelling and texturing.
Ability to model hard surface and organic subject matter.
Ability to produce real world models.
Ability to work from a varied complexity of briefs, and to be able to create briefs for both internal and external teams to communicate asset style, features and associated constraints.
Ability to express ideas within short time constraints.
Be receptive to constructive criticism and learn from it.
